The Melancthon Police Services Board is composed of three members and a Recording Secretary.  Respectively,
one member is appointed from Township Council, one member is a member of the public, appointed by
Council and the third member is a Provincial appointee by the Government of Ontario.

Meetings are held at the Melancthon Township Municipal office a minimum of four times a year as mandated by the Police Services Act. Minutes are prepared and made available to the public.
The Board maintains close contact with the Dufferin O.P.P. Detachment Commander, who attends the meetings regularly and supplies the necessary Reports to the Board. We appreciate the evident dedication to duty and the strong work ethic of the Detachment Commander and his Staff. It is indeed a team effort to keep our community safe.

Melancthon Township maintains a large network of paved and hard surface roads, as well as the lessor traveled  gravel surface concession roads, that handle an ever increasing volume of local and commuting traffic. Safety on our roads is a high priority and a very concentrated effort to reduce collisions on our roads is addressed by identifying high incident areas and addressing them with the appropriate enforcement levels.

As well, Melancthon Township is proud of its strong rural and agricultural identity. The O.P.P. has structured its enforcement in these areas to respond to incidents characteristic to a rural setting.

The Members of the Police Services Board through the Chairperson makes regular reports
to Township Council, and the Detachment Commander has committed to appearing
before Council upon request to address issues and to give his yearly report. Keeping the
public informed is a priority and we welcome the opportunity to make this webpage
an avenue in which we can address that responsibility.
